"Battleheart - enter a world of epic fantasy combat! Create a unique party of heroes, and lead them in frantic real-time battles against monsters of ever increasing power. Lay waste to your foes with dozens of unique special powers as you gain experience, upgrade your party's equipment, and craft them into the ultimate battle force!"

Battleheart is an RPG-style strategy game with a cartoon medieval design. Its main gameplay revolves around your 4 customized characters fighting off waves of monsters that increase in strength and diversity as you progress through the levels. Your characters earn EXP for every battle they survive, and level up. Every 5 levels, characters earn new special abilities.

Some abilities are passive, like the one shown above, and others are powers that immediately and directly affect the battle. Different classes of characters have different strengths and abilities. The cleric, as shown in the screenshot above, doesn't have any attacking abilities, and instead heals other characters. The knight, as shown below, has high defense and attack stats, but only deals damage in close range, and isn't very fast.

Items can be won or bought, and can be equipped to characters. The one in the screenshot above gives 20% more gold at the end of each battle. Others can increase a character's EXP gain, attack and defense stats, movement speed, and more.

In the battle screenshot above are a couple skeletons and a slime. The knight, to the left, and the paladin, to the right, are engaging the monsters in close combat, while the mage at the bottom of the screen deals ranged attacks, and the cleric at the top of the screen heals the other characters. There's 2 types of levels: finite waves that end after a certain number of monsters, which pays experience, gold, and an item. There's also arenas, where you go until all your characters die. Arena don't award EXP or gold, but instead gives rare and powerful items.
I really enjoy Battleheart because of its dynamic battle gameplay. It's very much a strategy game, forcing you to use the strengths and abilities of each character to the utmost benefit. It's near-impossible to get through a level without a mage for healing, so that leaves only 3 characters for actual combat. Other classes, like monks and witches, can further diversify a 4-character team. The game has a good number of levels, and offers a genuine challenge. It's between a casual, Angry Birds-like game and a hardcore, devoted game. The battles can take anywhere from 2 to 15 minutes. Overall, a very cool and unique game for iOS.
