Any good app should support every part of the platform its on. That includes working well with every supportable device, other apps, and the OS itself. Round 1 judges compatibility. FIGHT!
As shown in the screenshot above, Google Maps doesn't really work well with the iPad. Let's take some numbers from Apple's fourth quarter report. In the last few months, Apple has sold 26.9 million iPhones. That's a lot of Siri clones everywhere. Apple has also sold 14 million iPads in that time, a little more than half the number of iPhones. Assuming the iPhone to iPad ratio is similar to that, for every 1 million iPhones sold, there's almost half a million iPads sold, too. So, the iPhone is nowhere near the only important iOS device. Sure, it's more likely to need a maps app, but an iPad Mini with 4G would be a nice replacement for a GPS.
Apple Maps, on the other hand, does happen to have an iPad app, which works just as it should, in the proper resolution and features.
A home-OS advantage for Apple maps is also built-in support in any other app from the App Store. Installing Google Maps doesn't make other apps' "Open in Maps app" buttons open in Google Maps instead of Apple Maps.
Not only because of situation, but also due to Google's forgetfulness of the iPad, the Compatibility round will have to go to...
